Blue Cheer was an American rock band that initially performed and recorded in the late 1960s and early 1970s and was sporadically active until 2009. Based in San Francisco, Blue Cheer played in a psychedelic blues-rock style, and is also credited as being pioneers of heavy metal (their cover of "Summertime Blues" is sometimes cited as the first in the genre), punk rock, stoner rock, doom metal, experimental rock, and grunge. According to Tim Hills in his book, The Many Lives of the Crystal Ballroom, "Blue Cheer was the epitome of San Francisco psychedelia." Jim Morrison of The Doors called the group "The single most powerful band I've ever seen" and Eric Clapton defined them as "probably the originators of heavy metal".
"Blue Cheer" was the name of a variety of LSD made by chemist and Grateful Dead patron Owsley Stanley and the band was probably named for that (although the name existed earlier, as the name of a laundry detergent for which the LSD variety itself was named).

This isn't hard rock but more psychedelic. discovered this a year and a half ago. I had heard of blue cheer but never checked 'em out.

Nice write up Bren!, you're getting the hang of this!

Blue Cheer is one of those bands that's hard to nail down a genre for. Some call them the grandfathers heavy metal, taking the title away from Black Sabbath. I'm not positive where exactly they belong. They are certainly hard enough for their time period to earn a place of honor in either Hard Rock Bands of the 60's & 70's or in the Traditional Metal section.

Here's the lyrics to Love Gun

I really love you baby, I love what you've got
Let's get together, we can get hot
No more tomorrow, baby time is today
Girl, I can make you feel okay

No place for hidin' baby, no place to run
You pull the trigger of my
Love gun, (love gun), love gun

Love gun, (love gun), love gun
You can't forget me baby, don't try to lie
You'll never leave me, mama, so don't try
I'll be a gambler, baby lay down the bet
We get together, mama you'll sweat
No place for hidin' baby, no place to run
You pull the trigger of my
Love gun, (love gun), love gun
Love gun, (love gun), love gun
Love gun, love gun
Love gun, (love gun), love gun
Love gun, (love gun)
Love gun, (love gun), love gun
Love gun, (love gun), love gun
Love gun, (love gun)
Love gun, (love gun)
Love gun, (love gun)

Here's the lyrics to How Many More Times

How many more times, treat me the way you wanna do
How many more times, treat me the way you wanna do
When I give you all my love, please, please be true
I'll give you all I've got to give, rings, pearls, and all
I'll give you all I've got to give, rings, pearls, and all
I've got to get you together baby, I'm sure, sure you're gonna crawl
I was a young man, I couldn't resist
Started thinkin' it over, just what I had missed
Got me a girl and I kissed her and then and then
Whoops, oh lord, well I did it again
Now I've got ten children of my own
I got another child on the way that makes eleven
But I'm in constant heaven
I know it's all right in my mind
'Cause I got a little schoolgirl and she's all mine
I can't get through to her 'cause it doesn't permit
But I'm gonna give her everything I've got to give
Oh, Rosie, oh, girl, oh, Rosie, oh, yeah
Steal away now, steal away
Steal away, baby, steal away
Little Robert Anthony wants to come and play
Why don't you come for me, baby, steal away, alright, alright

Well, they call me the hunter, that's my name
Call me the hunter, how I got my fame
Ain't no need to hide, ain't no need to run
'Cause I've got you in the sights of my gun

How many more times, barrel house all night long
How many more times, barrel house all night long
Well I've got to get to you, baby, oh, please come home
Why don't you listen to me, babe
Why don't you please come home
Why don't you please come home
Why don't you please come home

This was one of the first bands, along with Foghat and CCR, that introduced me to rock music.

These guys are definitely an early heavy metal influence. Love 'em.

Lyrics to The Hunter

They call me the Hunter and Lord, that's my name
A pretty woman (girl) like you child are my only game
I bought me a love gun just the other day
Lord, and I aim to aim it your way
Ain't no use to hide
No there ain't no use to run
Cause I got you in the sights of my........
My love gun, my love gun, my love gun
God-dammed!
The first Time I saw you walkin' down the street
I said to myself, "Boom! Boom! Ain't she sweet!"
I got my love gun loaded
Loaded with a-huggin' and kissin'
And when I pull the trigger
There ain't gonna be no missin'
Ain't no use to hide
No there ain't no use to run
Cause I got you in the sights of my........
My love gun, my love gun, my love gun
God-dammed!

Fairly certain the Paul Stanley has said that Love Gun was strongly influenced by Zeppelin's How Many More Times. However, Zeppelin most definitely ripped off The Hunter ... something they did all over that first album, literally ALL OVER that album, ripping off other artists and giving zero credit until forced to via the courts later on.

I'm curious, did PorcTree give Pink Floyd any credit on this song? I didn't listen to the entire thing, but the 3-4 minutes that I did listen to and skip through, this is as blatant a rip off as I've ever heard.
No...why should they. That album is probably required listening for the beginner into the world of Porcupine Tree. PT has quadruple the output of Pink Floyd and ZERO airplay. Let that sink in.

I thought it sounded a lot like "Run Like Hell", it must have been done on purpose, maybe a tribute to Floyd or something. Anyway, it's a pretty cool sounding tune. My subwoofer loves the extra low bass, I'm guessing that's a five string? My 4 string Ricky won't reach that far down.
